Recovery cafe supporting those with addiction is set to launch in Kilmarnock

A cafe aimed at supporting those recovering from addiction will launch in Kilmarnock this Friday.

The cafe – based at the Howard Centre – will provide low-cost quality home-cooked food and create a holistic hub, supporting the needs of the community.

The project has received funding from Alliance Scotland, The National Lottery and Firstport.

The cafe will operate each Friday between 5pm and 8pm and follows similar initiatives across Ayrshire.

It comes following Recovery Enterprise Scotland’s successful conference on the consequences of drug and alcohol addiction held in the Howard Centre in August.

Organiser Mark Gallagher told the Standard: “We have been delivering a volunteer training programme, building relationships, confidence and skills in advance of launch.

“It’s all the more satisfying as the majority of volunteers are people in recovery having experienced stigma and discrimination.”

Email Mark Gallagher at recoveryenterprises@outlook.com or call 07793 241895 for more details.
