The World Health Organization reported a record increase in global coronavirus cases on Sunday, with the total rising by 230,370 in 24 hours.
As much as the the number of daily cases and deaths is much lower in the UK now than in recent months, elsewhere the deadly bug is still at its peak.
The biggest increases today were from the United States, Brazil, India and South Africa, according to a daily report.
Global coronavirus cases were approaching 13 million on Sunday, marking another milestone in the spread of the disease that has killed more than 565,000 people in seven months.
The previous WHO record for new cases was 228,102 on July 10.

Deaths remained steady at about 5,000 a day.
It was reported earlier today that a further 21 people who died of Covid-19 in the UK have been added to the tally, bringing the total to 44,819.
Yesterday a further 148 deaths were recorded.
As much as the UK has been hit much harder than many other comparable countries, it appears past the worst of it for now.

Some other countries are still enduring the peak of the pandemic however.
In the US more than 800 extra deaths were recorded today, bringing the country's total Covid death toll to 133,486.
Brazil endured a further 1,214 deaths today, meaning more than 70,000 people have now died having caught the coronavirus in the South American country.
Although South Africa's daily death total is lower than other countries' at 111, it has recently surged into the triple figures for the first time.
