Record number of police deployed for Liverpool vs Tottenham Champions League final

UEFA are stepping up security ahead of the Champions League final in Madrid now that it will be an all-English affair between Liverpool and Tottenham .

The Reds and Spurs will go head-to-head at the Wanda Metropolitano, the home of Atletico Madrid on June 1 after a pair of stunning semi-final comebacks.

The European football governing body know it has got potential for problems with huge number of English fans descending on Madrid and the fear is many will travel without tickets as each club will only get 17,000 each.

For the last European clash at the stadium, Atleti's Champions League knockout tie with Juventus in February, 800 officers were deployed.

But with an expected 50,000 fans set to parachute into the Spanish capital, the Policia Municipal de Madrid are preparing to fill the city with their employees.

A UEFA spokesman said: “We had already discussed security arrangements with the potential participating clubs ahead of the semi-finals and will further collaborate with the finalists on the matter until the final.”

There has also been uproar at the newly-built Wanda Metropolitano stadium having “obstructed view tickets” - with some fans expected to splash out £410 for a restricted view.

But UEFA insist that will only be 200 tickets in each allocation and that in a new stadium it may not mean what it did in older grounds.

Liverpool reached the final despite losing their first leg over Barcelona 3-0 before producing an incredible 4-0 victory at Anfield - with Divock Origi and Gini Wijnaldum both bagging braces.

Not to be outdone, Spurs were 3-0 down on aggregate in their second leg against Ajax and still managed to sneak through, thanks to Lucas Moura's hat-trick and 96th minute winner in Amsterdam.
