Record number of people sign up for Loch Lomond 10k

A record number of people have signed up to take in the Loch Lomond 10k next month.

A total of 804 people have put their names down to take part in the long-established event which was formerly known as the Vale of Leven 10k.

And this is the highest ever number of entries in the event, which is being organised by West Dunbartonshire Leisure.

The road race on June 22 attracts thousands of people to the area every year.

Angus MacDonald, WD sports development coordinator, has hailed the popularity of this year’s event to the change of name to include Loch Lomond.

Angus said: “It is really fantastic. We are so pleased with the number of runners who have signed up to take part so far.

Last year, more than 400 intrepid runners sweated it out in balmy weather as they pounded pavements across the area on the 6.3-mile route around Balloch, Jamestown and Alexandria.

Massive crowds lined the course as 300 children and more than 400 adults competed in temperatures touching 23 degrees.

This year, the run will start in Moss o’ Balloch before progressing through Balloch Castle Country Park – which offers scenic views over Loch Lomond – and then the route uses the path along the River Leven.

Angus added: “We are very happy that we have managed to continue the 10k race in Balloch and took the decision to rebrand it to the Loch Lomond 10k since the route takes you through sections of the National Park and starts and finishes in Balloch, which is right on the banks of Loc
