Record for highest number of Covid cases since pandemic started broken for second day in a row

The record for the highest amount of Covid cases has been broken again for the second day in a row.

The Government confirmed that a further 88,376 lab-confirmed Covid-19 cases have been recorded in the UK as of 9am on Thursday.

Yesterday, 77,741 cases were confirmed, breaking the record for the highest number of cases since the pandemic started.

Yesterday's figure indicated a huge jump of more than 20,000 from the day before when 53,953 cases were recorded.

Today's daily total is the highest since the pandemic began and almost 10,000 more than the previous record set on Wednesday.

146 more virus-related deaths have also sadly been confirmed.
