Record attendances, Champions League progression and the title race - Arsenal's season far

After narrowly missing out on a league title last season, the 2022/23 campaign was always going to be huge for Jonas Eidevall as he looked to push the team one step further.

The first few months have been positive, as the Gunners remain in contention for the WSL, along with Chelsea and Manchester United. They also progressed to the knockout stages of the Champions League as group winners.

However, injuries will be a cause for concern for the Arsenal boss with some key players sidelined for the rest of the season through injury. Here's how the north London club have fared since the start of the campaign.

September

It was a positive start to the season for the Gunners, with comfortable league wins over Brighton and Tottenham. The win over Spurs was also a huge moment for the women's game as the meeting at the Emirates smashed the WSL attendance record as 47,367 supporters watched on.

They also began their Champions League campaign in impressive fashion as they progressed from their qualifying round with a draw and a win over two legs against Ajax.

October

Following the international break, Eidevall's side narrowly beat Reading 1-0 away from home in the league. In Europe, they recorded a statement 5-1 victory over holders Lyon away from home.

The Gunners continued their unbeaten run with wins over Liverpool and West Ham in the league, as well as Zurich in the Champions League group stages.

November

Despite a positive start to November with a comfortable 4-0 win away at strugglers Leicester City, Arsenal suffered their first defeat of the campaign against Manchester United. Another huge crowd watched on at the Emirates, but two late goals from the visitors clinched a last-gasp win.

The defeat wasn't the only disappointment of the evening, as Beth Mead was forced off through injury and it was later confirmed she'd suffered a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament and would be sidelined for some time.

The month ended with a draw against Juventus away in the Champions League, but Arsenal were edging closer to qualification from the group stages.

December

The return leg against Juventus ended in a narrow 1-0 win for Arsenal and they later went on to secure qualification to the Champions League quarter-finals. Despite losing 1-0 to Lyon at home, a 9-1 thrashing of Zurich before Christmas booked their place in the knockout stages.

In the WSL they signed off for the year with wins over Everton and Aston Villa. They currently sit second in the table, three points behind Chelsea, albeit with a game in hand. Eidevall's side remain firmly in the title race, closely followed by Manchester United.

However, injuries will be a concern for the Arsenal boss as December also saw Vivianne Miedema suffer an ACL injury and she is expected to miss the World Cup later this year.
