Record 4.8million TV audience tuned in for Luke Littler defeat to Luke Humphries in darts final

The 2024 PDC Darts World Championship final between Luke Littler and Luke Humphries was watched by a record 4.8million people on TV.

Sky Sports have confirmed the viewership figures for Wednesday's thrilling contest at Alexandra Palace, as the No1-ranked player in the world beat the 16-year-old 7-4 to claim his first Championship.

A total 4.8m viewers tuned in during the final, which peaked at 3.71m.

That represents a 143 per cent increase on the numbers for the 2023 final, itself a memorable occasion as Michael Smith overcame Michael van Gerwen in a match which featured the acclaimed 'best darts leg in history'.

Littler's incredible debut run to come within touching distance of the world crown had captured not only the attention of the darting world, but of the nation.

A record-breaking peak of 2.23m had already watched the teenager knock former champion Rob Cross out in the semi-finals.

The audience for the final marks the highest-ever viewership in the darts' history on Sky Sports, as well as the network's highest-ever viewership for a non-football event.

Following the final, Sky Documentaries has commissioned an access-all-areas following the game's top players, which will be broadcast later this year.
