
Satellite data shows a record number of hotspots across Thailand, with 4,750 detected in a single day, the Geo-Informatics and Space Technology Development Agency (Gistda) reported on Tuesday.
A hotspot is a heat source that can indicate a fire. Hotspots are seen in satellite data.
The majority of hotspots were detected in protected forest areas, accounting for 2,553 hotspots, followed by national reserved forests with 1,717. Agricultural areas recorded 187 hotspots, Sor Por Kor land reform areas 161, community and other areas 125, and seven along highways.
In neighbouring countries, Myanmar had the highest number of hotspots, 5,505, followed by Laos with 2,704, Cambodia 593, Vietnam 489, and Malaysia 51.
