Record 235 new Covid fatalities, 19,843 new cases

Thailand logged 19,843 new coronavirus cases and a record 235 new Covid-19 fatalities over the previous 24 hours, the Public Health Ministry reported on Tuesday morning.

There were 19,445 cases in the general population and 398 among prison inmates.

On Monday, 22,806 Covid-19 patients recovered and were discharged from hospitals.

Since April 1, around when the third wave of Covid-19 began, Thailand has recorded 767,088 Covid-19 patients, 550,714 of whom have recovered.

Since the pandemic started early last year, there have been 795,951 Covid-19 cases, with 578,140 recoveries so far. 

The death toll stood at 6,494 in the third wave and 6,588 from the beginning of the pandemic early last year.

The previous high of daily Covid-19 fatalities was the 212 reported on Saturday. A record high 21,838 new cases were alo reported that day.
