Osaka Prefecture logged a record 1,220 new coronavirus cases on Sunday, marking the sixth consecutive day that the daily figure has exceeded 1,000.
Meanwhile, Tokyo confirmed 543 new cases, topping the 500-mark for a sixth straight day. It was also the 18th straight day that the tally in the capital has exceeded the number from the same day in the previous week.
According to the Tokyo metropolitan government, the average number of new infections in Tokyo over the past seven days was 586.4, up by 25.3% from the previous week's average of 468,
