The number of COVID-19 patients with severe symptoms had reached a record 1,152 on Monday, the Health, Labor and Welfare Ministry said. It is an increase of eight from the previous day, and the 10th consecutive day the number of seriously ill surpassed the 1,000 mark.
▪ 573 new cases in Tokyo
The Tokyo metropolitan government announced Monday that 573 people in Tokyo were newly confirmed as having been infected by the novel coronavirus. The daily tally in the capital was down 135 from last week, when 708 people were confirmed as having tested positive for the virus during the Golden Week holiday.
Tokyo reported 78 patients in serious condition, an increase of five from the previous day.
According to the metropolitan government, the 7-day moving average fell to 779.1, down 10.8% from 873.6 last week.
