'Recognition': Mikel Arteta explains Leandro Trossard new Arsenal contract and drops transfer hint

Mikel Arteta says Leandro Trossard’s new contract is “recognition” for his performances and has hinted the Belgian won’t leave the club this summer.

Trossard signed a new contract earlier this month, increasing his wage but keeping the length of deal running to 2027.

Arteta believes Trossard is deserving of the improved terms after becoming a regular for Arsenal since joining from Brighton in January 2023.

“That situation has been resolved in a really great way and I think he deserves recognition, and we are very happy to have him,” said Arteta.

Trossard’s new deal has come at a time when he has been heavily linked with a move away from Arsenal this month.

Turkish giants Fenerbahce are among those said to be tracking the 30-year-old, but Arteta has hinted he will stay.

“Well, it might be speculation,” said Arteta. “The good players always have options to go.

“Leo was very clear from the beginning that he wanted to go here, the club was very clear that they wanted Leo here, I was very clear that I wanted him here. At the end, good outcome.”

The summer transfer window will remain open for just over a week and Arsenal have been extremely active throughout with six new faces coming through the Emirates Stadium doors.

A seventh is expected to be confirmed over the weekend after the Gunners struck a deal for Crystal Palace to sign Eberechi Eze.
