Reclaiming freedom for the French

Nicolas Sarkozy's spirits are to be lifted by his American buddies as Congress looks to cheer up the French president, currently suffering the blues (les bleues?) after the breakdown of his marriage.

Due to address a joint meeting of Congress on November 7, the visit by Sarkozy will see US-French relations recover somewhat after the 'cheese eating surrender monkeys' nadir in 2003. The Congressional dining room has even switched 'freedom fries' back to 'French fries'.

But will De Gaulle really be turning in his grave at this new detente between the most brittle of allies, as the Moderate Voice blog claimed a few days ago over the French premier's "kissing up to the lame-duck Bush administration" or is it about time the two countries made up?

As one French embassy official pointed out, if you want the view from ground level, you need only log on to superfrenchie.com to see what French and American bloggers think of each other.
