Reckless group leave behind their entire campsite after all night party in Pentland Hills

Local volunteers for the Pentland Hills were forced to spend three hours clearing an entire campsite that had been dumped in the woods near Bonaly.

Officers for the regional park discovered the site on Monday, which included multiple tents, shelters, seats, sleeping bags and camping mats.

According to the park rangers the outdoor equipment was all "brand new", but had to be disposed off due to the damage from the elements.

Today the park took to social media to share that they had seen an increase in the number of young people bagging up their rubbish, however there are still a large number of incidents of littering.

In a post, the group hilariously shared that one group told them they "thought the bin men walked the banks of Harlaw Reservoir" and had left their rubbish bags sitting on the shoreline.

Over the last few weeks of lockdown, there have been multiple reports of large groups dumping huge amounts of rubbish and deserting almost untouched campsites after having parties and other big gatherings.

In June, shocking images were posted of the state of the woods near Harlaw Reservoir where a group had left all of their belongings behind, including a mobile phone.

The Pentland Hills group have also thanked the work of individuals in the community who have spent their own free time picking up rubbish and keeping the countryside clean.

They added: We would like to say how grateful we are to the real-life Wombles: Friends of the Pentlands, Carnethy H R C and numerous anonymous individuals (people like YOU, who love the hills), who have been going out and picking up unprecedented amounts of litter recently (volunteers from Carnethy Hill Running Club recently removed human toileting waste from the Souterrain at Castlelaw). Thank you so much – we wish you didn’t have to do it. #TakItHame"
