Reckless firebug torches car in Ayrshire street as residents slept

Detectives have launched an investigation after a car was torched in the middle of the night.

The motor went up in flames at a property on Mayfield Avenue in Hurlford at around 12.45am on Thursday.

Cops are treating the blaze as wilful and have now issued an appeal to anyone who may have saw or heard anything suspicious.

Officers also confirmed that nobody was injured as a result of the targeted attack.

Detective Constable Danny Ver Berne, of Kilmarnock CID, said: "Thankfully nobody was injured as a result of this completely reckless act.

"I am appealing to anyone who was in the area or saw or heard any suspicious activity to contact police on 101, quoting incident number 0190 of 28 May."
