Reckless Edinburgh teens filmed bus surfing down busy main road through Old Town

Two lads have been spotted recklessly bus surfing down a busy street in Edinburgh.

On the 30 Lothian bus to Clovenstone, two young boys were filmed holding on to the back of the bus as it made its way through Nicolson Street in the Old Town of Edinburgh during the school pickup rush.

On Tuesday February 28, passerbys looked in confusion while the young lads gripped on with their feet dangerously balancing on a small ledge as they made their way through Edinburgh at 3.30pm.

Taking to Facebook, one local who filmed them joked: "That’s the free bus passes working well I see." Bus travel for under 22s has been free for a year and the Scottish government recorded that 45 million free journeys were taken over the 12 months.

The dangerous trend has been witnessed multiple times in recent years with videos being shared to social media.

Last year there was a wave of footage of Edinburgh locals 'surfing' on the back of various Lothian bus services instead of paying to get on.

In one video shared online, three teens in grey tracksuits hanging off the back of a moving double decker in Hanover Street as it made its way through the city centre with stunned shoppers watching on.

A Police Scotland spokesman also at the time said: “All road users have a responsibility to ensure their behaviour does not put themselves, or others, at risk of harm. Failure to do so could have very serious consequences.”
