'Reckless' driver who left woman with bleed on the brain in Hucknall crash

A "reckless" driver has been jailed for three-and-a-half years after his actions left a woman in hospital with serious injuries. Kyle Bradley crashed into a vehicle when he was behind the wheel of a stolen car in Watnall Road, Hucknall.

The passenger inside the other car, a 56-year-old woman, suffered a bleed on the brain and other injuries in the collision and had to be rushed to hospital. Following the collision, 24-year-old Bradley jumped straight out of the car and fled the scene, without checking on the condition of the woman he had just hit on October 30, 2019.

Having always denied that he was the driver during the incident, a jury found Bradley guilty of causing serious injury by dangerous driving following a trial at Nottingham Crown Court on February 3 this year. Bradley was also involved in a second dangerous incident when he got behind the wheel of his sister's car without her consent on February 15, 2020.

While under the influence of drugs, Bradley drove at high speed through Hucknall, with pursuing officers witnessing him drive the wrong way around a roundabout. Following a short chase, Bradley crashed into a parked car in High Leys Road, Hucknall, and was arrested at the scene.

Bradley was also arrested on two further occasions for separate theft and drug offences. The first incident saw him steal another man’s bike in Broomhill Road, Hucknall, on September 21, 2018.

And he was also arrested on March 27, 2020, after cannabis and a large amount of dealer bags were discovered by officers inside his home during a warrant. Bradley, of Beauvale Crescent, Hucknall, appeared before Nottingham Crown Court for sentencing on Thursday (April 21).

In total, he was charged with causing serious injury by dangerous driving, dangerous driving, two counts of drug-driving, theft, supplying Class B drugs, possession of Class A and Class B drugs, driving without a licence and driving without insurance.

Inspector Jon Hewitt, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “On more than one occasion, Bradley showed little or no thought for the safety of others with his incredibly dangerous driving. His actions behind the wheel left one woman in hospital with serious injuries, while it is only down to sheer luck that nobody was hurt as a result of him racing through Hucknall while under the influence of drugs.

“It really should go without saying but this kind of behaviour is completely unacceptable and will be punished, as I hope the sentence handed out by the courts to Bradley for his actions demonstrates. Driving at high speeds, especially while under the influence of drugs or alcohol, puts both the driver and other motorists and pedestrians at an unacceptably high risk of harm.

“Nottinghamshire Police will never tolerate this kind of reckless behaviour and will always decisively respond to any report we receive of severe law breaking.” As well as a three-and-a-half year jail sentence, Bradley was also handed a 12 month driving ban.
