Reckless driver recorded at 'unbelievable speed' just yards from scene of fatal crash

Officers carrying out speed checks near the scene of a fatal crash said they recorded one driver doing an "unbelievable" speed just yards away.

Today, officers from the Roads Policing Unit were at Childwall Valley Road to carry out speed enforcement.

They were there just hours after a pensioner was struck and killed by a BMW last night.

A spokesman for the police confirmed a 74-year-old man died after he suffered serious injuries at about 5.50pm last night.

A road closure was in place between the junction of Childwall Valley Road and Chelwood Avenue, and Childwall Valley Road and Barnham Drive in Belle Vale.

Roads have since been reopened.
