A pub in Manchester city centre has been hit with a fine after it allowed customers in to drink during the coronavirus lockdown.
An officer from Greater Manchester Police tweeted about the 'reckless behaviour' on Tuesday evening (December 1).
They said licensing officers had found customers drinking inside the bar.
This is despite all hospitality venues across Greater Manchester - and across the country - being banned from opening under the current national lockdown restrictions.
Pubs, bars and restaurants are allowed to open in some areas from tomorrow (Wednesday).
But under Tier 3 restrictions in Greater Manchester, they can only open for takeaways and delivery.
Police did not reveal the name of the premises involved or the specific fine amount.
In a tweet, an officer from GMP city centre said: "A city centre pub has been fined for breaching coronavirus regulations.
"GMP licensing officers found customers in the bar drinking despite pubs being required to close to the public.
"Reckless behaviour by a minority of businesses will not be tolerated & enforcement action taken."
Under current coronavirus laws, businesses can be hit with fines of up to £10,000 for breaking the rules. For the first offence, the fixed penalty is £1,000, second offence would be £2,000, third is £4,000 and fourth would be £10,000.
