RecfishWest backs opposition to marine park plan

The head of WA's recreational fishing body says the public never had a chance to consider Labor's national marine park network.

The Coalition today moved disallowance motions for all six of the planned marine parks.

It claimed Labor "bastardised" the consultation process for its 2.3 million square kilometre marine network.

RecfishWest CEO Andrew Rowland has backed Coalition claims Labor rushed its plan.

He says the public was not given enough time to have its say on the management plan.

"The nitty gritty, where the rules, where the do's and don'ts are set was rushed through at the eleventh hour over the Christmas period and holiday period," he said.

"And, we don't think it's giving due consideration to a process which has taken five years to get to."

Mr Rowland says public input was needed.

"We're strong supporters of this disallowance motion," he said.

"We just don't believe that the community has had enough opportunity particularly to be engaged in the management plan part of this process."
