Recently cut WR Danny Amendola will sign with Detroit

Well that didn’t take long. The Dolphins cut veteran wide receiver Danny Amendola over the weekend as part of their kickoff to rebuilding. The former New England Patriot was immediately courted by Patriots fans all over social media to “come home”.

Amendola has other plans. ESPN’s Dianna Russini has reported that Amendola has found his new team: the Detroit Lions.

This really shouldn’t come as all that much of a surprise: the coaching connections between the Patriots, Amendola and the Lions are quite clear. Matt Patricia, who has done his part to try to turn the Lions into Patriots-West, will get a familiar face and reliable pass catcher for veteran QB Matthew Stafford.

Amendola, the Dolphins’ leading receiver in 2018, certainly wasn’t cut because he can’t play anymore. Rather, the move came largely based off of economic reasons and the motivation to get younger.
