Recap: Former UGA football greats Nick Chubb, Sony Michel square off in New England

Sunday marked the first time in their respective careers that former UGA running backs Nick Chubb (Browns) and Sony Michel (Patriots) played against each other in the NFL, and needless to say, the matchup did not disappoint.

In what turned out to be a victory for his Patriots, Michel ran for 74 yards, including one burst for sixteen yards.

For Cleveland, Chubb carried the ball 20 times and rushed for 131, which was supplemented by a 44 yard run. Still, Chubb likely won’t be thrilled with his performance, as he coughed the ball up twice, giving possession to New England.

This game was just another reminder of the prominence of UGA running backs in the NFL, and it isn’t crazy to think that we may see some playoff matchups between these two in future seasons.

Factor in what Todd Gurley has done with the LA Rams and D’Andre Swift down in Athens, and we could be seeing four Bulldogs starting on Sundays at the running back position.
