The Atlanta Falcons lost to the Minnesota Vikings in embarrassing fashion to open the season. They lost 28-12 in a game that was dominated by the Vikings in all three phases. Atlanta was trailing 28-0 before they were finally able to score 12 on the garbage time defense in the fourth quarter.
The Falcons’ run defense was atrocious, allowing 172 yards on the Vikings 38 run plays and three touchdowns on the ground. The defense was beat over and over again on outside and inside runs all game. Atlanta has to perform far better on run defense to have a shot to win against the Philadelphia Eagles next week.
Turnovers were also a sore spot for the Falcons, as they gave away the ball four times on offense between a blocked punt, a fumble and two interceptions. Atlanta should have a good team this year, but they can’t continue to shoot themselves in the foot.
