Recap: Bomb squad called to house after dead body found

Bomb disposal experts rushed to Keynsham today (January 10) after a dead body was found in a house containing vintage weapons.

Residents living beside the Wellsway property were evacuated as police officers searched the scene.

A spokesman for Avon and Somerset Constabulary said the fatality was being treated as a “sudden death” which would be referred to the coroner.

Resident Steve Grimshaw, 51, said he was left “puzzled” by the day’s events, explaining he was ordered by the police to leave the area at 9.30am.

Mr Grimshaw told Bristol Live: “They said, ‘Can you leave the area if able, because we’ve got the big boys coming down’. They wouldn’t tell me anything more.”

A police spokesman said: “A quantity of what appears to be ornamental weapons and ammunition have been found in the property, which may date back to the Second World War.”

The spokesman said bomb disposal experts attended as a precaution, adding that the evacuated neighbours were later invited to return.
