Rebel Wilson and James Corden hilariously poke fun at Cats on Oscars stage

Cats stars Rebel Wilson and James Corden have poked fun at the musical at the 2020 Oscars.

The two comedic actors appeared on stage on Sunday night to present the award for Best Visual Effects.

The pair walked out in full costume as their characters from director Tom Hooper's feline musical, based on the Andrew Lloyd Webber musical of the same name.

Rebel and James both commented in a tone of complete irony that they know "the importance of good visual effects", making a tongue-in-cheek reference to the much-derided special effects featured in the Cats film.

The musical was slammed for having Cats with extremely human hands - with the film going on to be re-edited and updated during its run in cinemas to improve the special effects.

The award for Best Visual Effects at the Oscars went to Sam Mendes' war epic 1917, but fans at home were left in stitches at Rebel and James' skit.

One amused viewer wrote on Twitter: "Imagine: you work hard, you develop your craft, you put all of your time and effort into your job and then you receive the highest honor, you win an Oscar... and you have to receive it from a human dressed up to look like a cat #Oscars"

Another agreed: "Imagine working years to earn your Oscar, only to get it handed to you by Rebel Wilson and James Corden dressed as cats #Oscars202 0"

A different viewer shared a similar thought: "Imagine dedicating your whole life to film and then you finally win an Oscar and you’re presented it by two idiots dressed as f***ing cats."

"As cast members of Cats, nobody understands more than us the importance of good visual effects," the pair were quoted in one tweet with the skull emojis.

Another tweeted: "This looks better than the actual #Cats movie"

Finally, RuPaul's Drag Race judge Michelle Visage commented on Twitter: "That was the best scene from cats"

Well, at least James and Rebel can poke fun at themselves!
