Under-fire footballer’s wife Rebekah Vardy says she hates being called a WAG – because
it’s derogatory to women.
The 37-year-old – married to £140,000-a-week Leicester striker Jamie, 32 – also reveals she looks after the family’s finances and investments.
Rebekah – heavily pregnant with their third child but accused by Coleen Rooney, 33, of leaking false stories about her – said: “I hate that word WAG. I think it’s quite derogatory. It’s so dated.
“I don’t sit at home shopping all day. I work. I look after the kids.”
She said of Jamie’s fortune: “It’s all being invested. I’m not p******g it up the wall.”
She admits she saw Jamie’s success on the pitch as “a financial opportunity” but the
former bar worker added: “Whatever I earn goes into the pot for the kids’ future. I never had that growing up.”
Rebekah has four children – Megan, 13, and Taylor, nine, from previous relationships, and Sofia, five, and Finley, two, with Jamie, who also has a nine-year-old daughter, Ella.
And she revealed Megan had recently asked for a debit card.
“We’ve told her she has to earn it,” she told The Times magazine.
Twice-divorced Rebekah’s own parents split when she was nine.
By 16 she had left home and was sofa surfing at friends’ houses.
Former pal Coleen – wed to Jamie’s former England teammate Wayne Rooney, 33 – was dubbed “Wagatha Christie” after setting a trap to discover who was leaking fake stories she had posted on Instagram.
She named Rebekah, who strongly denied the claims.
