Rebecca Adlington and Adam Peaty lead a host of glamorous stars on BBC SPOTY red carpet

Rebecca Adlington and Adam Peaty dazzled on the red carpet as they made their way into the BBC Sports Personality of the Year Awards.

The Olympic swimmers looked sensational as Rebecca rocked a black dress with sequins while Adam, accompanied by partner Eirianedd Munro, sported a suave cream suit.

They were joined by champion cyclist Laura Kenny, who was a vision in a gold sparkling frock, which she matched with a rather glam white manicure.

Also in attendance in Manchester were Olympic swimmer Tom Daley and his partner Dustin Lance Black.

Tom was wearing a silver shirt and blazer on which was pinned a beautiful brooch.

He teamed the look with smart black trousers and patent shoes.

The father-of-one won Gold this year in Tokyo alongside Matty Lee in the synchronised 10 metre event.

Another swimmer dressed to impress was Michael Gunning, who looked incredible wearing a lilac waistcoat and trousers with cream silk shirt.

Meanwhile British wheelchair racer Hannah Cockcroft stunned in a gorgeous asymmetric navy satin dress.

The stars joined Alex Scott, Gabby Logan, Gary Linekar and Clare Balding, who presented the star-studded event.

However, Alex's silver dress complete with glitzy sleeves didn't go down well on Twitter with one fan saying she was dressed like a "midsommar sacrifice".

Another viewer also offered some unsolicited fashion advice, tweeting: "Looks like Alex Scott has had to wear the last thing the shops had for sale...."

However many fans of the presenter jumped to her defence - suggesting that her critics are simply people who don't like to see a woman in sports journalism.

One star missing from the red carpet was US Open winner Emma Raducanu.

The 19 year old bagged the coveted Sports Personality of the Year Award - however she couldn't accept it personally because of Covid.

The Bromley-born star contracted the virus this week is currently self-isolating at a hotel in the Middle East, where she travelled for a pre-season warm-up tournament.

Emma's fans didn't completely miss out though as she dialled into accept her well-deserved gong from Abu Dhabi.
