Reasons for disrupted pre-season for Rangers duo Dessers & Igamane explained

Russell Martin has detailed the reason for the disrupted pre-season for Rangers forwards Cyriel Dessers and Hamza Igamane.

Both players had been unable to train with the main group before joining their team-mates from this week.

Martin has revealed the forward duo had missed training due to an injury for Dessers and visa issues for Igamane.

The Ibrox boss has admitted the pair are slightly behind their team-mates in fitness but are working hard to catch up.

"Do you know what? They have been really good," said Martin of the pair in a Rangers TV interview.

"They are both a little bit behind the group in terms of fitness but both working incredibly hard to get there, which is all you can ask.

"I have enjoyed having them on the training pitch properly for a week now.

"It was a bit stop start before that for different reasons.

"Cyriel because of an injury and Hamza because of, obviously, visa problems.

"But they are here now and working so hard to get back into shape and they both are going to be ready to help us which is important."

Martin added that the strikers will be needed by Rangers this season as he outlined his vision for the duo to play up front together at times.

He said: "We need talent at the top of the pitch and we need goals in the team, they both definitely bring that.

"We are going to try and work out ways to get them two to play together at times, it might be one of them, it might be both.

"There have been some moments from both where you look and go, Okay' they can really help the team'.

"I am looking forward to having them fully fit and firing soon."
