Reason Chermiti starts over Miovski for Rangers vs Genk explained by Martin

Russell Martin has explained his decision to start Youssef Chermiti over Bojan Miovski for Rangers' Europa League opener.

The Ibrox club kick off their campaign at home against Belgian side Genk this evening.

Martin made just one change from the weekend cup win over Hibernian with Chermiti coming in for Miovski.

The decision comes after Miovski appeared tired following the win over Hibs in the Premier Sports Cup, with Martin citing a huge amount of minutes for the striker since his move to Glasgow.

Chermiti is said to have "trained brilliantly" and been pushing Miovski and Danilo for a starting place in the Rangers side.

He has played twice for the club since his move from Everton and will now make his first start for Rangers.

Martin told Rangers TV: "I think you analyse the opposition and also you put into context the performances we have had.

"Bojan has done great since he has come in and then scored which was great on Saturday but looked a bit tired because he has gone from not much football to a lot of minutes and he has done brilliantly.

"You assess things. We have had three games this week. Youssef has trained brilliantly; they are pushing each other really hard, along with Dani as well.

"It just felt it was the right change to make for us tonight."

Confirmed Rangers starting XI vs Genk: Butland, Tavernier, Souttar, Cornelius, Meghoma, Raskin, Diomande, Aasgaard, Moore, Gassama, Chermiti.

Subs: Kelly, Wright, Rothwell, Barron, Djiga, Miovski, Rice, Gentles, Curtis, McCallion, Danilo.
