JAMMU: Continuing its drive against underground criminals, absconding in cases of heinous crime, a team of Reasi Police in a successful operation arrested a surrendered terrorist, a serial murder accused wanted in 20 murder cases who is absconding since 2000.
Sr Superintendent of Police SSP) Reasi Shailender Singh said, “Identified namely as Mumtaz Ali @Tahir son of Ali Mohd a resident of Thuroo-Arnas was wanted in a case registered on 15/10/2000 a case FIR no 127/2000 U/S 302, 307, 120-B, 121-A, RPC, 7, 27 Arms Act at Police Station Mahore,”
“It was proved and challan was produced in the court of law on 28/11/2001 against accused Mumtaz Ali @Tahir.”
“To avoid conviction accused remained underground and couldn’t be apprehended since registration of Case FIR against him, SSP Reasi Singh said and added that a general warrant of arrest U/S 512 CrPC was issued by Court of JMIC Mahore on 06/12/2001 against him.
“Mumtaz joined terror outfit Hizb-ul-Mujahideen (HM) in may 1999, remained as active terrorist for 9 years in Mahore-Chassana area, his name was considered as terror in the area as he remained involved in killings of innocent civilians in the area, Mr Singh added.
SSP Reasi Singh said, “20 cases of murders were registered against the accused during that period in Police Station Mahore.”
“The accused also remained involved in FIR numbers 48/2004, 150/2001, 73/2001, 110/2004, 117/2004, 148/1999, 30/2005, 86/2005, 96/2005, 9/2006, 24/2006, 25/2006, 46/2006, 67/2006, 88/2005, 36/2006, 40/2006, 57/2006, 64/2006 all under sections, 307, 302, 120-B, 121, 147, 148, 336, 332, 186, 201, 212, 216, 34 RPC, 7, 27, 26, 27 Arms Act of Police station Mahore.”
“In March 2008 Mumtaz surrendered before security forces along with Arms and ammunition i.e AK47 Rifle, 05 AK47 magazines and 02 HE 36 grandees, police official added.
SSP Mr said, “A team of Police Station Reasi traced and after arresting produced him in the court and executed the warrant against him after 20 years.”
Reasi police under the command of Shailender Singh, Senior Superintendent of Police Reasi has launched a special drive FRARI KI GRIFTARI (arrest of absconders) and got success in nabbing hardcore notorious habitual criminals who were evading arrests since years and against whom general warrants of arrest are issued by the courts.
He added that around 43 absconding criminals evading their arrests since long are arrested and produced in the concerned courts in last 12 weeks.
