Rear seat belt beeper nod likely this week

MUMBAI: The Centre may notify the mandatory features of rear seat belt reminder and the three-point seat belt for all front-facing passengers in cars this week. Sources said manufacturers will get enough time to roll out new cars with these safety features.

After investigators found that industrialist Cyrus Mistry and the other deceased passenger did not wear the rear seat belts, road transport minister Nitin Gadkari had announced the plan to introduce seat belt reminders for rear seat passengers too.

The road transport ministry in February had published the draft notification for "three-point seat belts for all front-facing passengers in a car, including the middle seat in the rear row". It had proposed to introduce this feature from October 1.
