'Really sad to see' - Jake Humphrey's verdict on 'listless' Newcastle United and Steve Bruce

BT Sport host Jake Humphrey has expressed his sympathy for Newcastle United fans but fears the results are now reflecting their performances.

Steve Bruce's side have now gone nine matches without a win in all competitions after their resounding defeat at Arsenal on Monday night.

The under-fire Magpies boss promised changes following the abysmal loss at Sheffield United in their last outing, and demanded a reaction from his players.

However, it was more of the same from Newcastle as two goals from Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang either side of Bukayo Saka's strike earned the Gunners a comfortable 3-0 victory.

The pressure has ramped up on Bruce in recent weeks following a run of results which has dragged the Magpies into a relegation dogfight.

The 60-year-old admits his future is in the hands of others, but has vowed to do his best to arrest United's worrying slide down the division.

Humphrey has become popular among Magpies supporters in recent seasons for his balanced approach to covering the club's misfortunes.

The BT Sport host was asked for his view on United's form and Bruce's future, and he outlined how the team's dismal displays were now showing in their results.

However, Humphrey also stressed the issues in the club's hierarchy which has left Newcastle "listless and drifting" for years.

Humphrey posted: "I’m afraid the stats weren’t lying. The results were.

"The biggest thing tho [sic] for me is how listless and drifting the club is. The issues go right to the top.

"What’s the plan, what’s the culture, what’s the future & why aren’t the fans at the very centre of it?

"Really sad to see..."
