'Really sad to see' - Graffiti sprawled across Roker Park playground in Sunderland

Police have appealed for information after a popular playground in Sunderland was damaged by graffiti.

Sunderland Police were called to Roker Park and to the seafront on Tuesday (August 10), after reports of graffiti being daubed on playground equipment and bins.

The force shared images of the graffiti on social media saying it was "really sad to see".

Officers are now appealing to members of the public for help to find those responsible for the vandalism describing the incident as "disrespectful to the community".

They also said the graffiti comes at a cost to the council who then have to remove it.

A spokesperson for Sunderland Police tweeted: "Really sad to see graffiti daubed on playground equipment in Roker Park and at the seafront.

"It is disrespectful to the community and comes at a cost to Sunderland Council who have to remove it.

"We are trying to identify the person responsible. If you can help please get in touch."

Sunderland City Council also shared the appeal on its Twitter page encouraging anyone with information to get in touch with police.

A spokesperson for Sunderland City Council added on Twitter: "We'd welcome any information about the graffiti in Roker Park if anyone recognises the tags then please contact Sunderland Police.

"Our teams work hard to ensure our facilities continue to be accessible for all to enjoy."
