Justen Engelking got it done Saturday night with a big walleye ice fishing on the Chain O’Lakes.
So big, that Engelking messaged, ``Was surprised I was able to get the fish through an 8-inch hole.’’
He caught the 28-inch walleye with a 17-inch girth weighing 9.8 pounds around 11:55 p.m.
``[I] was fishing the Fox Chain using a Buck-Shot spoon in 17 feet of water and she packed up a huge fight!’’ Engelking messaged.
It was just light of his personal best, a 30-inch walleye with a girth of 17.5 inches weighing 10.4 pounds he caught night fishing last spring on the Chain to earn FOTW on May 1. Click here for his personal-best walleye FOTW.
FOTW, the celebration of big fish and their stories (the stories matter) around Chicago fishing, runs Wednesdays in the Sun-Times. Submit nominations by message on Facebook (Dale Bowman), on Twitter (@BowmanOutside) and Instagram (@BowmanOutside) or email (BowmanOutside@gmail.com).
