Real Sociedad reveal major Kieran Tierney injury blow after Athletic Bilbao clash

Real Sociedad boss Imanol Alguacil has revealed Scotland star Kieran Tierney has suffered a 'major' hamstring tear and refused to put a timescale on his return.

The on loan Arsenal defender was taken off during his side's 3-0 win in the Basque derby against Athletic Bilbao at the weekend.

Former Celtic star Tierney will now miss Scotland's crucial Euro 2024 showdown in Spain in Seville and will also be absent for the friendly against World Cup runners-up France.

And Sociedad boss Alguacil admitted he couldn't put a date on when the 26-year-old would return to action.

He said: "Kieran has suffered a major muscle tear. It's a shame.

"It's a significant injury, but it's not an extraordinary one.

"What I always say, each player is different and so is the recovery time.

"Time will tell when he will return, but it was a classic muscle tear that will take him time to recover from.

"But he will recover and we hope as soon as possible."

Tierney has made four appearances so far for Sociedad and Scotland boss Steve Clarke will be hoping he recovers in time for the final two games in the group next month away to Georgia and at home to Norway.
