Real Sociedad handed shock fitness boost ahead of Manchester United tie

Real Sociedad have been handed a huge fitness boost ahead of their Europa League first-leg fixture against Manchester United this week.

United face Sociedad in Turin on Thursday night in the first-leg of their round-of-32 encounter, with the sides set to meet at Old Trafford next week in the second-leg to decide the tie.

The game was moved from Sociedad's Anoeta Stadium in San Sebastian to Turin due to strict travel restrictions in Spain which forced Uefa into relocating the match.

The Basque side looked set to be without star winger Mikel Oyarzabal for both matches, but were boosted by his shock inclusion in the starting line-up vs Getafe over the weekend.

The 23-year-old suffered a thigh injury last week and was expected to miss both games against United, but returned to play 79 minutes in the 1-0 win on Sunday.

Although no official time frame was originally given on his recovery it was widely expected Oyarzabal would miss both legs given the typical treatment time required for the injury he had sustained.

His return is set to be a huge boost for Sociedad who head into the match fifth in La Liga after their away win against Getafe.
