Real Madrid win the Fifa Club World Cup: Los Blancos crowned champions of the world for third year in a row

Real Madrid have completed a hat-trick of Fifa Club World Cup triumphs after beating Al Ain 4-1 in Saturday's final.

Luka Modric opened the scoring for Real in the first half before goals from Marcos Llorente and Sergio Ramos made the game safe after the break.

Tsukasa Shiotani scored a consolation goal four minutes from the end, but an own goal from Yahia Nader in the last few seconds restored Real's three-goal advantage to ensure they are club champions of the world once again.

The result marks the third Club World Cup triumph in a row for Los Blancos after winning three straight Champions League trophies during a golden era under former coach Zinedine Zidane.

Real suffered a difficult start to the 2018-19 season, with the club struggling in life after both Zidane and Cristiano Ronaldo, with the latter departing for Juventus in the summer.

A poor run of results which culminated in a 5-1 Clasico thrashing against Barcelona saw Julen Lopetegui lose his job after just four months in charge, although Santiago Solari impressed enough as caretaker boss to earn himself a permanent contract until the summer of 2020.

While few would have expected UAE champions Al Ain to trouble Real in the final, the victory will come as a welcome tonic to Real fans as they prepare to try and chase down Barcelona in LaLiga while also defending their Champions League trophy after the winter break.
