Real Madrid want to host Rafael Nadal vs Roger Federer match at the Bernabeu

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez wants to stage a tennis match between Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer at the Santiago Bernabeu.

The club chief told members on Wednesday of the plan, to set a new world record attendance record for the sport, ahead of Sunday's Assembly of socios, in which they will vote on the absorbing of women's team CD Tacon, among other matters.

According to ABC, Perez has already told Nadal (famously a Real Madrid fan) of his idea and wants to see a sell-out 80,000 crowd at the Bernabeu for a match with Federer.

That would more than double the current record crowd for a tennis match, when 35,681 watched Kim Clijsters beat Serena Williams in an exhibition event in Brussels back in 2010.

And although Nadal and Federer are expected to set a new mark of 50,000 in a Cape Town meeting next year, Perez' plans would obliterate that figure.

Socios can ask questions to the Real Madrid president on Sunday and it is one of the topics expected to be discussed at the Assembly, with members keen to hear more about the project.
