Real headed into Tuesday's clash having been humiliated by city rivals Atletico Madrid 7-3, while Spurs are needed a win having been beaten 2-1 by Manchester United.
Neither Mauricio Pochettino nor Zinedine Zidane will want to see their side fall to consecutive defeats with the new season fast approaching, and both coaches named strong starting line-ups at the Allianz Arena.
Harry Kane led Spurs' attack with support from Heung-min Son and record signing Tanguy Ndombele, while Eden Hazard started with Karim Benzema and young Brazilian Rodrygo.
Spurs started much stronger, with Keylor Navas - in goal in place of the injured Thibaut Courtois - forced into a number of fine reaction saves.
But Navas was powerless to prevent Kane from putting Spurs ahead as the striker capitalised on mistakes from Hazard and Marcelo to finish low past the keeper after 22 minutes.
