Real Madrid vs Tottenham: Gareth Bale not included in squad after China transfer collapses

Gareth Bale has not travelled with the Real Madrid squad to Munich after being left too distressed by the breakdown of his move to China.

Real face Bale's former club Tottenham in the Audi Cup on Tuesday before playing one of Bayern Munich or Fenerbahce the following day.

Bale, 30, is understood to be furious at his treatment by Real coach Zinedine Zidane and president Florentino Perez, who has called off his £1million-a-week move to Jiangsu Suning.

Bale was on the cusp of signing a three-year deal with the Chinese Super League club before Real pulled the plug without explanation, and there is limited time to revive the move, with the Chinese transfer window due to close on August 31.

Zidane has made it clear that he wants Bale to leave Real as soon as possible – prompting the player's agent Jonathan Barnett to label him a 'disgrace' – and the Frenchman is also understood to be angry at the breakdown of the deal, which was decided by Perez.

The president is thought to have torpedoed the move amid concerns about losing such a talented player for no transfer fee, particularly given his tendency for disposing of coaches. Bale joined Real from Spurs in a then world-record £86m deal.

Bale, who is understood to have sought Real's permission before deciding not to travel, has been given no assurances over his future and will now face an anxious wait for Real's next move.
