Real Madrid secured their first win of the Club World Cup to keep their hopes of reaching the knockout stages alive when they defeated Pachuca 3-1 in Charlotte, North Carolina.
The Spaniards got off to the worst possible start when Raul Asencio brought down Salomon Rondon as the last man and was shown a straight red card just six minutes into the game.
Pachuca then dominated as Real lacked mojo and rhythm through the opening half an hour. Things changed when Jude Bellingham made a run from midfield and guided home the opener in the first half.
Arda Guler, brought into the starting XI for this match, netted a second in a similar move as Real went into the break two goals up.
Federico Valverde’s second-half volley added a third to put the icing on the cake and Elias Montiel’s consolation goal wasn’t enough to spark a comeback from the Mexican side who now exit the competition in the group stages after two defeats from two.
