Real Madrid beat Juventus 1-0 in the Club World Cup on Tuesday night in Miami, with Los Blancos booking a place in the quarter-finals of the tournament.
The two sides played out an evenly matched half in the first period in Miami, with Randal Kolo Muani spurning a great chance when clean through, chipping an effort over the bar.
Madrid had the better of the chances as the half came to an end but it was all-square at the break, though that changed soon into the second half as Gonzalo Garcia headed in from Trent Alexander-Arnold’s pinpoint cross.
Madrid were then dominant after going ahead, forcing Michele Di Gregorio into a number of impressive saves as the Juventus attacking threat faded.
And Los Blancos were able to close the game out fairly comfortably late on, to book a quarter-final tie against either Borussia Dortmund or Monterrey.

Mbappe makes Club World Cup debut as Frenchman’s return provides boost for Xabi Alonso’s Real Madrid
23:10 , Chris WilsonKylian Mbappe made his Club World Cup debut in the 1-0 win over Juventus on Tuesday, with the Frenchman providing a reminder of what he can bring to Xabi Alonso’s changing Real Madrid side.
Mbappe came on for Gonzalo Garcia in the 68th minute of the match in Miami, with the latter having opened the scoring not long before with a brilliant header.
The Madrid academy product has thrived when given the opportunity under the absence of Mbappe, but the Frenchman made his return and was energetic throughout, linking up well with Vinicius Jr in attack and almost prodding home from one of the Brazilian’s crosses.

Goncalo Garcia gives Real Madrid edge in Club World Cup victory over Juventus
22:45 , Chris WilsonReal Madrid hit their stride at the Club World Cup on Tuesday, edging Juventus 1-0 to reach the quarter-finals thanks to a second-half strike from academy graduate Gonzalo Garcia as Kylian Mbappe made his tournament debut.
Garcia, deputising for Mbappe after the France forward missed the group stage due to gastroenteritis, found the back of the net early in the second half to set up a meeting with either Borussia Dortmund or Monterrey.
Mbappe made his much-anticipated appearance as a second-half substitute, delighting the partisan crowd who packed Hard Rock Stadium to near capacity in a demonstration of the Spanish giants considerable global appeal.

Courtois reacts
22:40 , Chris WilsonThibaut Courtois was also speaking to DAZN.
“I think we had a good game, we started feeling how it was going, they defended more than we expected. After that we tried to control the game a bit more,” he said.
“In the second half we had a lot of chances, we scored and we defended well. I think in the second half they shot twice, so we had a good defence.
“We want to push everyone to be on top and be focused. We’re keeping on growing, we try to do better each game. We want to finish the first part with him [Xabi Alonso] in the final,” he adds.
On Alexnader-Arnold, he adds: “He’s horrible in training, his crossing is amazing, his free-kicks and corner kicks. I don’t think I’ve seen a guy with this quality. As a keeper it keeps you on your feet.”
Valverde reacts
22:30 , Chris WilsonMadrid captain Fede Valverde was talking to DAZN after the game.
“We had a lot of chances, credit to us, we were working in attack and defence. We’re looking to improve,” he said.
“We tried to control the game, attack the game.
“Gonzalo deserves it [his goal], he works very well, he’s a player from the academy, he got an opportunity and he’s taking it. He needs to continue working,” he adds.
On his role as captain, he adds: “I try to get the best out of my teamates, I try to send a message.”
Real Madrid vs Juventus player ratings: Valverde impresses for Madrid during valiant Di Gregorio performance
22:20 , Chris WilsonReal Madrid beat Juventus 1-0 in the Club World Cup on Tuesday night in Miami, with Los Blancos booking a place in the quarter-finals of the competition.
The match started slowly at the Hard Rock Stadium with both sides trading blows in the first half, but it sprung into life when Gonzalo Garcia headed in from Trent Alexander-Arnold’s cross.
Madrid dominated from there as Juventus slowly faded, with the Italians simply unable to put together any spell of sustained attacking pressure as Madrid closed the game out well.
Here are how the players rated from the match in Miami:

However, it was a composed and professional performance from Madrid, who find themselves in the quarter-finals after a great goal from Gonzalo Garcia.

Club World Cup 2025: Results, fixtures and knockout schedule after Man City stunned by Al-Hilal
19:45 , Chris WilsonThe Fifa Club World Cup 2025 continues with Chelsea in the last eight but Manchester City are out after suffering a shock loss to Al-Hilal.
Real Madrid will hope to avoid another upset later tonight when they take on Juventus, with Borussia Dortmund rounding out the last 16 against Monterrey.
Harry Kane’s Bayern Munich are now preparing to take on Champions League holders Paris Saint-Germain in the quarter-finals.
Find out everything you need to know about the competition below.

Club World Cup 2025: Results, fixtures and knockout schedule
How Juventus reached the last 16
19:40 , Chris WilsonJuventus started the tournament with two great results, beating Al Ain 5-0 in their opener before a 4-1 win over Wydad Casablanca in the second match of the campaign.
However, the team’s flaws were exposed fairly dramatically against Man City in the final match of the groups, with Pep Guardiola’s side dismantling Juve in a 5-2 win.
The Italian side will be overwhelming underdogs tonight after that showing in Orlando.

How Madrid reached the last 16
19:30 , Chris WilsonMadrid’s opening match of the tournament ended with a disappointing 1-1 draw to Al-Hilal, but they followed it up with a 3-1 win over Pachuca to all but seal qualification.
Their final game brought a 3-0 win over RB Salzburg, with some hints of a team beginning to find its rhythm visible in that one.
Which version of Madrid will we get tonight?

The biggest Club World Cup question is still unanswered – does anyone care?
19:20 , Chris WilsonThere is the £1bn broadcasting deal, the £97m prize for the winners, the guarantee of a minimum of over £30m in revenue for the Premier League participants. There is the possibility of the kind of windfall that could bring domestic dominance for a club from outside Europe. There is the potential reward of cracking America, as everyone looks to build their brand.
In a sense, though, the Club World Cup depends upon a different kind of investment. Whatever the big financial figures, it needs buy-in: not from Fifa’s partners but from the part of the footballing family who are rarely consulted, the fans.
The Club World Cup is in a battle for hearts and minds and eyeballs. It is a matter if – and it is too early to draw definitive conclusions – people buy into it; if they invest their time, their hopes and their emotions.

'The match of the tournament'
18:23 , Mike JonesJuventus manager Igor Tudor claimed that facing Real Madrid in the last-16 would be the match of the tournament for his team.
Speaking at a press conference ahead of tonight’s game he said: "I expect a difficult match, against a renowned team with great qualities that, in the last 10 years, have shown their worth in all competitions.
“Real Madrid is always strong in these tournaments. We are prepared. We want to advance, we want to play our cards. I really liked Real Madrid's last match. I saw quality, teamwork and sacrifice. I saw a real team.
“We have a difficult match ahead of us, we have analysed it well, but I told my players that these are the best matches to play.
“Everyone wants to beat Real Madrid, we want to try too. We have to face it like this, also with great courage.
“The match of the tournament for us? Obviously.”
Manchester City knocked out of Club World Cup by Al-Hilal
18:15 , Chris WilsonManchester City crashed out of the Club World Cup as Al-Hilal snatched a stunning 4-3 victory in extra time of a pulsating last-16 clash in Orlando.
Marcos Leonardo grabbed his second goal with 112 minutes on the clock as the Saudi Arabian side produced a major upset.
Bernardo Silva gave City a ninth-minute lead but Pep Guardiola’s side were punished for missing a series of chances as Leonardo and Malcom replied after the break.

'Juventus are very intense'
18:07 , Mike JonesMore from Real Madrid manager Xabi Alonso who went into detail on what he is expecting from tonight’s game.
Of Juventus Alonso said: “They're a very intense side.
“They are clear in their ideas, and have great collective and individual quality. They have lots of top-level players.
“I'm sure we'll be up against a tough, top quality outfit. We won't be looking at the last game against City, we have other reference points.
“We'll be ready for them."
Alonso on Club World Cup
18:00 , Mike JonesXabi Alonso spoke about Real Madrid’s run through this tournament and what challenges the Club World Cup has brought as he settles into a new team dynamic.
“It's thrown up a lot of challenges so far,” said the Los Blancos boss.
“We knew we'd be ready but it's such an intense competition, with not much time between games, which makes it difficult to kick things off or lay a solid foundation.
“We're spending a lot of time together, which allows us to strengthen relationships, which is vital. We want to deliver."
Yildiz's arrival
17:53 , Mike JonesKenan Yildiz scored an incredible goal against PSV Eindhoven in September 2024 to become the first goalscorer of the revamped Champions League.
It also made Yildiz, then 19, Juventus’s youngest scorer in the competition, eclipsing the record the legendary Alessandro Del Piero had set in 1995.
He fully arrived on the scene after that and could be the biggest threat Madrid face tonight.
Mbappe's first year
17:45 , Mike JonesKylian Mbappe joined Real Madrid last summer on a free transfer having let his contract with PSG run down.
After a rocky start in Spain he scored 29 goals in 32 games for Real Madrid in 2025.
Though they failed to win La Liga or the Champions League trophies, Madrid could end their season as the Club World Cup champions with Mbappe playing a huge role in the knockout rounds.
Will he have a magical impact for Los Blancos?

Rinderknech clinging on
17:42 , Mike Jones*Alexander Zverev 6-7 (3-7) 7-6 (10-8) 3-6 3-4 Arthur Rinderknech
Zverev is pushing to get through Rinderknech’s defence but can’t.
He’s missed all nine of the break points he’s created in this match so far and the fourth set remains on serve heading towards the business end.
Will Mbappe play?
17:37 , Mike JonesKylian Mbappe has missed all of Real Madrid’s Club World Cup matches so far having been unwell with acute gastroenteritis which actually sent him to hospital.
He is back with the team and in training but will he feature against Juventus?
“It’s a big possibility that he makes his Club World Cup debut,” said manager Xabi Alonso.
“I don’t know how much, but it’s a big possibility.”
Real Madrid's dangerman?
17:30 , Mike JonesJude Bellingham scored 23 goals for Real Madrid from midfield during a spectacular first season at the Bernabeu in 2023/24.
19 of those came in 28 games in La Liga, with the England international duly named the competition’s MVP.
Carlo Ancelotti tended to play him in a deeper role in 2024/25 which caused that output to drop slightly but the midfielder is certainly one of Madrid’s most dangerous players.

When is Real Madrid vs Juventus?
17:15 , Chris WilsonReal Madrid vs Juventus is due to kick off at 8pm BST on Tuesday, 1 July at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, Florida.

Real Madrid vs Juventus
17:07 , Chris WilsonReal Madrid face Juventus in the last 16 of the Club World Cup on Tuesday evening, with Los Blancos hoping to build on recent positive performances at the start of Xabi Alonso’s tenure.
The Spaniard has only overseen three matches at his new club but he is looking to gel his side quickly as they approach the business end of this tournament, with the club hierarchy keen to land another trophy in the first edition of this new tournament format.
And standing in their way for now are a Juventus side who are looking to bounce back from a shambolic 5-2 loss to Manchester City, with the Italian giants having struggled over the last few months of the season.
Igor Tudor’s side have shown little to suggest they will trouble this new-look Madrid team, but there have been several shocks at the tournament so far and another one cannot be ruled out here.
Good evening
17:00 , Chris WilsonWelcome to The Independent’s live coverage of tonight’s Club World Cup match between Real Madrid and Juventus.
The two European giants face off in Miami with a place in the quarter-finals on the line, with both sides still adapting to new managers.
However, Madrid are the favourites for this one, with Juventus’ weaknesses having been brutally exposed at the hands of Man City last week in a 5-2 loss.
