Real Madrid vs Barcelona staged for prime time British TV audience

Real Madrid's next El Clasico showdown with Barcelona is being staged for a prime time British TV audience.

La Liga president Javier Tebas made the announcement that the clash between the two Spanish giants will be on Sunday, March 1, with a kick off time of 8pm in the UK.

The evening kick off time was confirmed as La Liga launched its own dedicated channel in the UK which will be available via Premier Sports and on Sky and Virgin.

Tebas told a launch in London: “We are playing the game for a European wide audience to appeal to British viewers and make sure it is at a good time.”

La Liga has struggled in the UK for programming since a disastrous deal with Eleven Sports but is now fighting back to appeal to English viewers.

They also unveiled plans for a news channel to bolster their programming, a magazine show and revolutionary hologram interviews.

Former Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino was guest of honour at the launch and said: “It’s very exciting football, great managers and amazing fans.”

Pochettino was reluctant to talk about his next move as a manager - but did make it clear where the destination is likely to be.

He added: “England and Spain are the two best leagues in the world.”
