Real Madrid vs Barcelona LIVE: El Clasico result, latest updates and reaction after Los Blancos win

Real Madrid vs Barcelona - LIVE

El Clasico took centre stage for the first time this season as Real Madrid beat Barcelona in a massive showdown at the top of LaLiga. Kylian Mbappe opened the scoring with his 16th goal of the season across all competitions, before Jude Bellingham netted what turned out to be the winner shortly before half-time.

The hosts had the chance to extend their lead early in the second half, but Wojciech Szczesny pulled off a stunning save to deny Mbappe from the penalty spot. A depleted Barcelona side, without the likes of Raphinha, Dani Olmo and Robert Lewandowski, did equalise through Fermin Lopez but couldn’t get back on level terms for a second time and finished the game with ten men after midfielder Rodri was sent-off for two bookable offences.

Los Blancos were fired up after losing all four El Clasico meetings last season and remain unbeaten at home under new head coach Xabi Alonso Madrid are now five points clear at the top of the table. Follow El Clasico back below with Standard Sport's dedicated match blog!

Barcelona’s high line was a key feature in all four El Clasico meetings last season, but it has come under criticism at times this term.

We know Barca will not change their approach and it could play into the hands of Kylian Mbappe - as long as he times his runs better.

"If we change anything, we lose our structure, and that doesn’t help.”

Who is in charge for Barcelona?

14:30 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

With Hansi Flick missing this afternoon, Barcelona's coaching staff will instead be in charge at the Bernabeu.

There had been suggestions that Thiago Alcantara would lead the team, raising the prospect of a reunion with Xabi Alonso as the pair were previously team-mates at Bayern Munich and for the Spanish national team.

Sorg will be helped by fellow assistant coaches Toni Tapalovic and Heiko Westermann. Jose Ramon De la Fuente is the goalkeeping coach with Flick's backroom staff completed by fitness coaches Julio Tous, Pepe Conde, Rafa Maldonado and German Fernandez.

Alonso reacts to Yamal comments

13:50 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Real Madrid head coach Xabi Alonso has refused to be drawn on comments made by Lamine Yamal ahead of Sunday’s El Clasico.

The Barcelona wonderkid appears to have caused quite a storm in the Real Madrid dressing room by claiming the current LaLiga leaders "rob and complain."

According to Marca, Yamal comments haven't gone down well in the Real dressing room and captain Dani Carvajal is said to be planning on ‘confronting’ his Spain international ahead of the big game.

However, Alonso did not want to give the comments too much attention when addressing the media in the pre-match press conference on Saturday.

Real Madrid out for revenge

13:40 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Real Madrid are out to put things right this afternoon, having lost FOUR times to Barcelona last season - including being thrashed in the corresponding fixture just over a year ago.

(Getty Images)

Predicted Barcelona XI

13:35 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Wojciech Szczesny is set to deputise in between the posts once again as he seeks to keep a first clean sheet of the campaign.

Jules Kounde should be fit to start despite being substituted in the 6-1 win over Olympiacos earlier in the week and Marcus Rashford could make his El Clasico bow as the left-sided attacker - potentially crossing paths with Alexander-Arnold at some point.

Predicted Barcelona XI: Szczesny; Kounde, Cubarsi, Araujo, Balde; De Jong, Pedri; Lamine Yamal, Fermin, Rashford; Torres.

(ES Composite)

Predicted Real Madrid XI

Trent Alexander-Arnold has been absent since limping off against Marseille in the Champions League fixture last month, and may have to settle for a place on the bench.

Jude Bellingham scored Real Madrid’s winner against Juventus in midweek and will be pushing to start alongside Arda Guler and Vinicius Jr in support of the red-hot Kylian Mbappe who has netted 15 goals across all competitions so far this season.

Predicted Real Madrid XI: Courtois; Carvajal, Militao, Huijsen, A. Carreras; Valverde, Tchouameni; Arda Guler, Bellingham, Vinicius Jr; Mbappe.

Score prediction: Away win

13:05 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Barcelona are without some of their best players and their manager has a touchline ban, but Real are also far from perfect. They may be on a four-match winning run, but their performances have not all been convincing.

Real’s 5-1 loss to Atletico last month will serve as a blueprint for Barcelona, who have remained free-scoring despite missing Lewandowski. The Balugrana’s depth and form should see them claim the points.

Barcelona to win, 3-1.

Barcelona team news: Raphinha blow confirmed

13:00 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

The visitors have made the trip to the capital without, arguably, two-thirds of their best attack as Robert Lewandowski and Raphinha are both injured.

With regards to the latter, he did return to training earlier in the week after five games out, but suffered a setback and will not be available for selection this afternoon.

Elsewhere, Joan Garcia, Marc-Andre ter Stegen, Gavi and Dani Olmo are also absent.

Real Madrid team news: Quartet return

12:55 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Real Madrid have been boosted by the returns of Trent Alexander-Arnold, Dani Ceballos, Dean Huijsen and captain Dani Carvajal for this afternoon's showdown.

Xabi Alonso has included the quartet in his matchday squad, but it remains to seen who - if any - gets the nod to start against Barcelona.

Antonio Rudiger and David Alaba are sidelined through injury.
