Real had several chances but were denied by an excellent display from Barca keeper Wojciech Szczesny, who kept out Mbappe's penalty early in the second half.
Barcelona barely threatened Real keeper Thibaut Courtois after the break and finished the match with 10 men after midfielder Pedri earned a second yellow card for a sliding tackle from behind on Aurelien Tchouameni in added time.

Tempers boiled at end of Clasico
18:46 , Lawrence OstlereVinicius has had a testy relationship with Alonso since he took over as manager in May. Alonso has substituted him in most games this season even though he appears to have solved how to bring the best out of his two star players – Vinicius and Kylian Mbappe – who struggled to click last season.
In an eventful match with plenty of needle, Vinicius was fired up, snapping into tackles and encouraging the crowd to make more noise. He toyed with Kounde almost every time he had the ball and looked like Madrid’s most probable source for a goal.
His looping cross in the 42nd minute was headed back across goal by Eder Militao and nodded on by Dean Huijsen for Jude Bellingham to prod home. Minutes later he thought he had created a third goal after teasing Frenkie De Jong by the corner flag to engineer a chance that eventually fell to Mbappe, who was offside.
But even after storming off the pitch his part in a testy match was not over. He reemerged just before the final whistle after Pedri was sent off and a fight broke out between the teams. He had to be shepherded away from the scene as he argued with Barca’s players.

Vinicius angry to be substituted
18:29 , Lawrence OstlereA frustrated Vinicius Jr stormed straight to the changing rooms after being substituted during this heated Clasico with Barcelona, making his displeasure known to manager Xabi Alonso.
Vinicius was taken off in the 71st minute and replaced by fellow Brazilian Rodrygo during their 2-1 win over their bitter rivals, with Vinicius playing a key part in the winning goal and running Barcelona’s right back Jules Kounde ragged.
With Madrid reversing a four-game losing streak against Barca, the win looked set to be an important milestone in new manager Alonso’s efforts to stamp his authority. However, Vinicius’s angry reaction at being taken off showed the challenge he faces in managing the egos within his team.

Raphinha injury a blow, admits Barcelona assistant Sorg
14:33 , Lawrence OstlereAssistant coach Marcus Sorg said on Saturday: "Any team would miss Raphinha, but the situation is what it is. He is injured.”

Alonso ignores 'cheat' jibe by Yamal
14:21 , Lawrence OstlerePressed further, Alonso reiterated his stance.
"No, I’m not going to get into that. There have been a lot of statements from people in Barcelona and I can't comment on them all. For us, the important thing is the pitch, what happens on the pitch. Where we’ve come from and what lies ahead. That's what concerns me most and what we’ve been working on."
Visibly irritated when the question came up a third time, Alonso, who took over from Carlo Ancelotti at Real in June, added: "Are we going back to that? What I have in my head is that it's going to be an intense and competitive match.
"We have to be prepared because there will be moments for everything. The players have to have the necessary adrenaline. I’m not thinking about other consequences."

Alonso ignores 'cheat' jibe by Yamal
14:15 , Lawrence OstlereReal Madrid manager Xabi Alonso declined to comment on Saturday after Barcelona winger Lamine Yamal suggested the capital club "cheat" and "complain" in a televised interview on Friday.
Instead, Alonso directed his focus to Sunday's El Clasico at the Bernabeu, emphasising the importance of the match for his LaLiga leaders who have 24 points, two ahead of Barca in second.
Alonso faced repeated questions from reporters regarding Yamal's remarks, made during an appearance on a Kings League programme alongside former Barcelona defender Gerard Pique.
The 18-year-old Barca forward compared Real to Porcinos, a Kings League team, stating: "Of course! Yes, they cheat, they complain ..." The comments, which Pique supported, stirred debate in the build-up to one of soccer's most iconic fixtures.
When asked about Yamal’s statements, Alonso dismissed the topic. "It’s an important match ... important enough," he said.
"It has many ingredients for us to play well, for us to enjoy it. And that’s what excites us the most, the biggest incentive for tomorrow."

Team news
13:43 , Lawrence OstlereReal Madrid could welcome back Trent Alexander-Arnold or Dani Carvajal back into their starting line-up following respective injuries, while Dean Huijsen is also in contention. Antonio Rudiger and David Alaba remain sidelined.
Barcelona’s extensive injury list is growing, with Raphinha joining a host of high-profile absentees including Olmo, Lewandowski, Gavi and Marc-Andre ter Stegen due to a leg muscle injury. Despite Raphinha's setback, the Spanish champions remain optimistic that they can count on key players Ferran Torres, Jules Kounde, Andreas Christensen and Frenkie De Jong, who all took part in training on Saturday. Hansi Flick won’t be on the touchline due to a ban.
Real Madrid v Barcelona
13:36 , Lawrence OstlereReal Madrid could extend their lead at the top of LaLiga as they welcome fierce rivals Barcelona in what may prove a crucial El Clasico come the end of the season.
Los Blancos have emerged as the early frontrunners for the title, with league top scorer Kylian Mbappe having already hit 10 goals to power his side to eight wins from nine.
Barcelona, meanwhile, come into the game in the midst of an injury crisis, with Raphinha now joining the likes of Dani Olmo, Robert Lewandowski and Gavi on the treatment table.
Xabi Alonso’s side will surely see Sunday’s matchup as the perfect opportunity for Real Madrid to break their losing streak against the Blaugrana, having not produced any sort of result in El Clasico in their previous four meetings.
