Real Madrid unveil new-look Santiago Bernabeu with plans to host NFL fixtures

Real Madrid have updated fans with a video to highlight what their iconic Santiago Bernabeu stadium will look like once construction on the ground is finished.

There are a number of notable new features that have been added to the stadium, such as a high-tech retractable playing surface which will ensure the grass is always in top condition.

The new system will store grass in state-of-the-art trays underneath pitch surface, often replaced with artificial turf to allow the stadium to play host to a number of different events without damaging the surface.

The garage space below the pitch in which the grass Real Madrid will play on is packed with ventilation, air conditioning, an irrigation system, maintenance side walkways, LED lighting, control cameras and ultraviolet light therapy to maintain it's condition.

The stadium will have five restaurants overlooking the pitch, which will be in service every week as well as matchdays - the ground also possessing a sky bar for supporters who enjoy a pre-match cocktail.

Fans will have the ability to order food and drink to their seat before, during and after the game via an app service.

Given Los Blancos recent perilous financial situation, the new improvements to the Bernabeu will ensure the stadium goes from brining in revenue solely on match-day to now 365 days a year.

Shopping centre's will be included inside the venue - but arguably the most striking addition is the stadium's ability to host a number of different sporting events.

NFL games, NBA basketball fixtures and tennis matches have all been mentioned in the unveiling of the plans as club president Florentino Perez looks to explore as many avenues for income as possible.

The Bernabeu is now projected to bring in more than €100m per year - ensuring Real Madrid become the first club to hit the €1 billion in stadium revenue mark.

Always a club to do things on a grand scale, Real Madrid are seen by many as the biggest football club in the world for good reason.

Summer signing David Alaba said as much even though the Austrian previously plied his trade for German giants and European powerhouses Bayern Munich.

"Bayern Munich are one of the biggest clubs in the world, the same as Real Madrid," stated Alaba, via Marca.

"Both teams represent absolute success. However, at Real Madrid everything is a little bigger, with all due respect to Bayern."
