Real Madrid will go to the Spanish courts and continue to fight the decision to throw them out of the Copa del Rey for fielding an ineligible player after their appeal against the ban was rejected by the Spanish Football Federation.
The club confirmed that they had lodged an appeal with the Spanish court for arbitration in sport.
A statement on their website said: “Real Madrid CF has received and analysed the resolution of the Appeals Committee, which once again verifies that the player Denis Cheryshev was not notified of his ban, the only way the aforementioned ban can take effect. The club has therefore submitted an appeal to the Administrative Court for Sport.”
Real Madrid were thrown out after the opening round for fielding Cheryshev in a first-leg 3-1 win over Cadiz on 2 December. Cheryshev was carrying a one-match suspension for yellow cards last season, when he played for Villarreal on loan from Madrid.
Madrid insist that Cheryshev was not properly informed of the suspension but the latest ruling disputed this and said all necessary legal proceedings were observed. The return match was originally scheduled for next Wednesday.
