A double to Karim Benzema has helped send Real Madrid through to its third-straight Champions League decider following a tense 2-2 draw with Bayern Munich in the second leg of their semi-final at the Bernabeu.
Real Madrid, who has won the past two Champions League titles, held a 2-1 aggregate following its victory away to Bayern last week but it was immediately on the back foot at home when Joshua Kimmich scored in the third minute for the German club.
Benzema replied in the 10th minute with his opening goal before scoring again in the 46th minute to give Madrid a 4-2 buffer on aggregate.
But Madrid fans had to endure a nervous wait for much of the second half after James Rodriguez found the back of the net for Munich in the 63rd minute.
The visitors only needed one more goal to progress to the final via aggregate, however they could not find the decisive score even with the benefit of five minutes of added time.
Madrid will play either Liverpool or Roma in the final to be played in Kiev on May 27 (AEST), as it chases a fourth Champions League crown in five seasons.
They face off in Rome on Thursday morning (AEST), with Liverpool holding a comfortable 5-2 advantage on aggregate.
More to come.
