Real Madrid have suffered a huge injury blow ahead of the second leg of the Champions League semi-final against Chelsea with centre-back Raphael Varane ruled out of the game.
The 28-year-old felt pain in his right leg during the first half of Los Blancos' 2-0 win over Osasuna on Saturday and was replaced at the interval by Nacho.
Varane underwent a scan on Sunday and it revealed an abductor injury that is expected to keep him out for around ten days, which will mean his misses the trip to Stamford Bridge on Wednesday.
Madrid released a statement this afternoon that read: “After the tests carried out today on our player Raphael Varane by the Real Madrid Medical Services, he was diagnosed with an injury to the right abductor muscles.”
It's the second defensive blow Real Madrid have suffered since the first leg of the semi-final tie, which ended 1-1 in the Spanish capital.
On Thursday, it was revealed that right-back Dani Carvajal was set to miss the remainder of the campaign having suffered a hamstring injury in last Tuesday's clash against the Blues.
There is some good news for the La Liga giants, however. According to Spanish reporter Mario Cortegana, club captain Sergio Ramos and left-back Ferland Mendy are set to return for the second leg having sat our the first game between the two sides.
Zinedine Zidane has also confirmed that Marcelo will be available for the game despite having been selected to be part of a polling station in the Madrid Assembly elections, which take place tomorrow.
"It is what it is, he will fulfil his obligations but on Wednesday he will be with us," Zidane said on Saturday after his side's victory.
Thomas Tuchel has far fewer injury concerns ahead of the game.
Mateo Kovacic is a doubt having missed the last three weeks with a hamstring injury and while Antonio Rudiger missed the weekend victory over Fulham with a facial injury, he is expected to play Wednesday's game with a mask.
Tuchel told Sky Sports after Saturday's victory against Fulham: "I hope Mason's [knock] isn't a big thing and we took him off so hopefully, he can fully recover for Real Madrid.
"I think Toni [Rudiger] can play with a mask and everyone else who was on the bench [against Fulham] will be totally fit for Wednesday. Mateo [Kovacic] will maybe be too close but we still have hope."
