Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema is having the 'best season of his career', says FFF president Noel Le Graet

Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema has enjoyed the "best season of his career" to date, believes French Football Federation (FFF) president Noel Le Graet.

Benzema has not played for France since 2015, following the fallout from the Mathieu Valbuena scandal, but was in fine form as Los Blancos claimed the LaLiga title in 2019/20.

The 32-year-old hit 21 goals for Zinedine Zidane's side and registered eight assists, including an extraordinary back-heel to set up Casemiro in a 1-0 win at Espanyol last month.

"He has had an exceptional season with Madrid," Le Graet told RMC Sport.

"I have already congratulated Zidane, his coach. He is one of the best players out there today."

Asked whether Benzema was the best striker in the world, Le Graet said: "It's not for me to say. I haven't seen all the games.

"But he has had the best season of his career."

Le Graet claimed last year that Benzema's international career was over, provoking an angry reaction from the Madrid striker, who hinted he could even switch allegiance and play for Algeria.

Benzema reacted to Le Graet's latest praise on Twitter.

"I prefer to laugh," he wrote.
